Working with Multiple Computers When it is necessary to share game data between two or more computers, it helps to understand the way Easy-Scout XP Plus stores game data. With this basic understanding, it will be possible to use tools within the program to move game data between computers. Easy-Scout XP Plus stores all game data in a single database. Each game has indentifying information (Game Properties), such as a Game Name and Game Comment. Only the Game Name is required. When two computers are used by the same coach or two coaches on the same staff, Easy-Scout game data can be moved between the two computers. The easiest and "safest" way to do this is to use the Import/Export Games Utility, because only the games that are imported and exported are affected, and the program controls the process and prevents the accidental over-writing of data. Conversely, the Backup and Restore Utility copies entire files and should only be used when over-writing (replacing) all Easy-Scout XP Plus data is desired or necessary. The Export Game Utility "extracts" Game Data from the main "database" where all games are stored "together" and places it in a single "file" that contains only the Exported game or games. That file, along with any other files created with the Export Game Utility (each exported game is automatically placed in a single file) can then be taken to another computer and "Imported". The Import Game Utility "inserts" Game Data from a game file that was "exported" to the main Game database, adding the imported games to those already present. Together, the Export Game and Import Game functions make it possible to combine games entered on different computers, enter part of a game on one computer and the rest on another computer, or enter games on one computer and print reports on another. |
